Our Mission

Welcome to the “Our Mission” page of Belarus FM, a nonprofit organization in Lithuania that provides support to all independent Media forced to leave Belarus due to danger to their life and Freedom. Our mission is to help these media outlets continue to produce high-quality content and stay connected with their audiences.

The 2020 revolution in Belarus led to a crackdown by the government on independent media outlets. Many journalists and media workers were arrested, threatened, and harassed, and some were forced to flee the country in order to escape persecution. As a result, a number of media outlets were forced to shut down, while others were forced to operate in exile or underground.

For those media outlets that chose to leave Belarus, finding solutions for migration and asylum has been a difficult and challenging process. These journalists and media workers have had to navigate complex legal systems and bureaucracies in order to obtain refugee status or work permits in new countries. This has made it difficult for them to continue their work as journalists or media professionals, and has also made it difficult for them to support themselves and their families.

At the same time, the lack of independent media outlets in Belarus has left citizens without access to critical news and analysis of current events. State-controlled media outlets continue to dominate the media landscape, and their reporting is often biased or incomplete. As a result, many Belarusians are unable to access the information they need to make informed decisions about their lives and their country.

Belarus FM recognizes the importance of independent media in a democratic society, and we believe that supporting these media outlets is crucial to protecting the right to freedom of expression in Belarus.

Our mission is to provide technical and other forms of support to these media outlets, so that they can continue to operate independently and provide critical news and analysis to the people of Belarus, regardless of their location.

Belarus FM aims to address this gap by providing technical and other forms of support to Belarusian media outlets, including assistance with podcast hosting, audio-book publishing, and content distribution. By providing these resources, we hope to help these media outlets continue to operate independently and provide critical analysis and news to the people of Belarus.

Our ultimate goal is to help preserve and protect the fundamental right to freedom of expression in Belarus, and we believe that supporting independent media is a crucial step towards achieving this goal. Thank you for your interest in our organization, and we welcome your support in this important work.
